In order to organize the system of insurance and reinsurance of property interests of the Republican unitary enterprise “Belarusian NPP” and ensure its functioning, as well as taking risks in reinsurance from foreign nuclear insurance pools, on February 27, 2019, the agreement on the Belarusian nuclear insurance pool was signed.
Participants of this Pool according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated January 14, 2019 No. 15 “On liability for nuclear damage” are Belgosstrakh, “Beleximgarant” and Republican unitary enterprise “Belarusian National Reinsurance Organization”.
The insurance coverage of liability for nuclear damage for the operator of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is formed in accordance with the requirements of the Vienna Convention on civil liability for nuclear damage of 21 may 1963 and the Protocol amending the Vienna Convention on civil liability for nuclear damage of 12 September 1997.
The creation of the Belarusian nuclear insurance pool will ensure the protection of citizens from possible losses and losses arising from the operation of nuclear power plants, as well as to enter the international arena through the possible entry of the Belarusian nuclear insurance pool into the International pooling system.
